Have the class brainstorm words associated with different age groups — “infant,” “adolescent,” “old person.” Starting with “infants,” have students brainstorm physical characteristics, personality characteristics, clothing and activities, associated with that age group. Do the same with adolescents, but ask students to brainstorm the stereotypical view that adults have of adolescents. Third, brainstorm the stereotyped picture they have of old people. (At this time, do not yet get into the concept of “how old is old.”)
