Activity 1A: Sawing Logs: A Sleep Journal and Inventory Activity Suggestion

The purpose of this activity is to provide students with an opportunity to conduct data collection while increasing their awareness of the recommended amounts of sleep. Students will apply science to real world situations, their own sleep, as they investigate the detrimental side effects associated with sleep deprivation. Students will maintain a sleep journal to track their own sleep patterns and associated behaviors to generate data based conclusions about sleep.

Objectives: 
  • Infer and draw conclusions from data analysis
  • Convert data tables into graphical form
  • Calculate averages, mean, median, and mode from class data
