Activity 5A The Atherozone: What's the Risk?

Students will use character profile cards for Sarah Sclera, Mona Cyte, Marty Artery, Pete Platelet, Keisha Adventitia and Jack Plaque, Jr. and a table of risk factors to determine an Atherosclerosis Risk Score (ARS) for each character. Once an ARS has been determined, students will use a graph to find the probability that the character will have an advanced coronary artery lesion.

Objectives:
  • Identify risk factors for developing atherosclerosis
  • Investigate the effect of health choices on the risk of developing atherosclerosis
  • Identify preventive measures that may reduce the risk of developing atherosclerosis
