Depending upon the ability level of the students, the teacher may wish to review with the students the following: propaganda techniques, the role of image and slogan, formats for printed and media advertising, and focus groups. Students should preview TV and magazine advertisements geared toward the older population. Questions regarding advertising methods may also be included in Unit 4, “My Older Friend” during lesson 3 (the interview). Teachers may wish to find magazines geared to the aging population, such as Modern Maturity, to demonstrate the types of advertisements used for the aging population. Students should be prepared to make their own advertisements for marketing a product to an older person in the 21st century.
