Introduction
Lesson 3, “Checking Test Comparability/Scattergrams” teaches students how to construct a scattergram graph. Two examples of graphing are provided to be done by hand. A third example is to produce a scattergram using one of the data spreadsheets. The concept of an outlier is taught in this lesson. To establish equivalency between language versions of the HHIE-S, the line of best fit must show a strong positive correlation, have a slope of one, and the intercept must pass through the origin of the graph. Although not formally presented, teachers may wish to extend this lesson by discussing issues of equivalency and systematic errors or bias.
