Introduction
In lesson 1, “Adolescent Nutrition,” students first learn about the different nutrient needs for teenage boys and girls. The activity is extended to include a food diary analysis of an elder person's diet. Students should be encouraged to interview volunteers from different age groups to determine their caloric intake and the types of foods they eat. The food pyramid should be reviewed with the class for this lesson.
NOTE: This lesson is based on the 1992 USDA food guide pyramid.
See http://mypyramid.gov/ for the 2005 USDA food guide pyramid.
Lessons and activities based on this new food pyramid are forthcoming.
