Introduction

Lesson 2, “Food Groups,” introduces students to the five food groups: breads, fruit, vegetable, protein, and dairy. Students should understand that the foods they eat are made up of different proportions of the nutrients learned in Lesson 1. The activities are centered on classifying different foods into their appropriate groups, including prepared foods. The concept of combination foods, prepared food whose ingredients belong to more than one food group, is introduced.
