Objectives

- determine their caloric needs
- determine caloric values of food items
- graph caloric values of meals
- modify the caloric value of meals to more closely match their caloric needs
Activity Description
One Meal Deal Card describing complete meals will be selected by a student from each group. The group will define calories; collect data on food eaten and total number of calories eaten in the “meal”; and investigate how to maintain an energy balance to control weight gain and/or loss. Students will be able to apply what they learned to their personal food choices.

Have students cut out pictures to match their selection; post them for display and have data (caloric values) attached.
Extension
Have students report on at least two opposing views regarding the following topics:
- How to safely reduce calories
- Which food groups should provide the majority of calories
- The dangers of omitting food groups from your diet
