Subject: Advisory

Unit/Lesson: Brain Anatomy/Health "It's All In Your Mind"
Lesson 1, Activity 1C
Activity Name: Homunculus - "Little Man" Role Play and Sensory/Motor Areas
Grade Level: 7
Adaptation: Room Sized Homunculus
Description: Ms. Eckerman used colored tape (blue contractor's tape) to "draw" homunculus man on her classroom floor. Then there was enough room for the entire class to participate.

Unit/Lesson: Intergenerational Relationships "My Older Friend'
Lesson 2, Activity 2A
Activity Name: My Older Friend's Life Line
Grade Level: 6
Adaptation: Positive/Negative Timeline
Description: Students created biographies and timelines of an older friend's life. Students had to interview older friends who picked five good and five bad events from their life, assign the event a rating (1 to 5 or -1 to -5), and then plot the events on a graph. Biographies, timelines, and poems were presented. Students and older friends shared "Words of Wisdom", things they have learned and wish to share with others. Students and older friends then completed a survey explaining the best and worst parts of the project, and offering suggestions to the teacher. Ms. George compiled a booklet which included all the steps for this project, handouts, and time schedules.

Population Demographics - Our Aging World - Adaptations

Unit/Lesson: Population Demographics "Our Aging World"
Lesson 3
Lesson Name: Life Expectancy Around the World Today
Grade Level: 6
Adaptation: A Six Weeks Unit with Spreadsheet Development and Web Research
Description: Most of the activities from this unit deal with the growth of the aging population. Students learn about how the population has changed over time, life expectancy, percentages, graph interpretation, population pyramids, developed and developing nations, and the future changes in our population. Students became so interested in the topic that they directed the development of a spreadsheet component. Mr. Ferguson created a spreadsheet for the countries being researched by students. Students entered data collected from web sites, atlases, and other references. Upon completion of spreadsheet data, students developed their own criteria for what "developed" and "developing" countries were. Formulas were created so that once data was entered countries were categorized as either developed or developing. The culminating activity involved a group share out.
